Lately I have felt like I have hit a bit of a road block. I guess when you are on the path to making your own money as a freelance writer and author, money is sourced from a variety of work. I know my targets and I know how many hours I work towards but then it dawned on me, it is taking too long to reach a more stablisied regular cashflow and the income is still way too low. As with freelancing work, its paid by the hour and there is only so many hours in the day.
It reminds me of great teachers who have said, don’t work hard for money, let it work hard for you. This is all well and good, and I love how this creates an entirely imaginative and creative sphere where once can ride the wave of ideas and brainstorm to get that one idea that might just pay off.
Let’s face it, I am a creative person, and I am talking here about money. But I am not ashamed, I, just like you, require money to live. It’s a fact of life. I also enjoy the freedom money can provide but do not enjoy when the freedom is restricted due to low cash in the old bank account.
So how does one free themselves from the slave of working for money to live and gain freedom?
Well there are some options
- Find a career that you love, so working towards a greater goal is worthy of your life.
- Create your own path, open a business or create a product and pray to God it sells.
- Or dream hopelessly that your money situation will change without you having to do anything. i.e winning lotto
- Of course there are lots of options, it is just up to you tothink out of the box to find yours.
So where to from here? Well as you know, I like to leave thoughts in a positive atmosphere…
Here is my thought process …
For ten years I have worked in jobs and careers that I have not fully enjoyed, that have held no passion in my life or want to continue with. (Please note, the people I have met through those jobs are amazing and would never disrespect that).
For ten years I wished for something greater but for 6 of those years I had no idea what that something greater was.
When I started writing my first novel, Entice Me. I worked full time and wrote in all my spare time, including lunch breaks, on the train and late nights. I have worked hard for this.
When I took 12 months of leave from my day job, I spent a lot of time brainstorming ideas on how to work from home.
Where am I now?
I feel like a brick wall lays in front of me, I can’t keep going straight ahead I must find a way round. But I don’t want to go left or right, I want to smash my way through. I read once, that sometimes when something is put in front of us, if we persist we will find true success. So I will take this as a sign that I need to make some changes. I need to get out the drawing board again and think about how I can make my dream career a reality, one filled with the boundless freedom I need to live my life (money included).
If you are travelling through a similar experience, where what may have worked a few months prior has now dried up or you just feel something is missing, then I urge you to really take some time to think about how you can change your path to ensure you get to your desired outcome.
Because as they say, no two destinations are alike. For one person it may be a one way road to success, another through multiple streets, red lights and detours. Never lose sight of the end result. Never give up on your true heart’s calling.
I also believe that when we are unsure where to go, or if opportunities dwindle, then soon more doors open. Good luck my friend, may your door to paradise open to you.
